REGISTER INTEREST IN ABUNDANCE FOR 2011

Abundance is now taking a well-earned rest from all the tree scaling, fruit picking, and redistribution from autumn 2010.

Along with the trees, we are hibernating!

However, seasons being seasons we will start up again from the end of summer 2011.

To remind, we are 100% volunteer led and volunteer run and rely on community support and input to keep going.

So if avoiding fruit waste, promoting healthy eating and getting involved with the local community sound like your thing, we would love to hear from you – get in touch with us now to register your interest…

Here are some of the ways you can get involved with Abundance from end summer/autumn 2011:

- collect fruit
- scout out new trees
- scout out new distribution points who could use the fruit
- run a chutney or jam-making workshop
- give us stuff! Jam jars, recipe books, tarpaulins, apple pickers…. bike grease, the works….
- help out with publicity

To register your interest:

1. Email abundancearea4@gmail.com and put ‘volunteer’ in the subject heading
2. Tell us what you’d like to get involved in

That’s it! We’ll email you back closer to the time.

Day of preserving – 24th October

Hello fruity folk

It is almost the end of the fruit picking season!!!! Thanks to all who have got involved this year and helped stop all that fruit going to waste…. we reckon the number of fruit we’ve saved is somewhere in the thousands, so many thanks.

We have been stashing some fruit aside from our usual deliveries for join us this coming Sunday for a day of chutney-making, jam-making, juicing, and maybe even toffeee apple making (if we’re lucky)

Join us for this party-esque breather from the usual fruit picking at the Sumac Centre on Sunday 24th, 11am-4pm

The Sumac Centre is at 245 Gladstone Street, Forest Fields, Nottingham NG7 6HX, England.

Come prepared to share or learn some preserving/juicing skills. Lunch and tea and coffee will be made on site too.

Hot off the press: Abundance gets juicy!

Thanks to invaluable support from Sprout at the Partnership Council and to donations for our chutney and jam, Abundance has managed to raise enough money to invest in a Fruit Press! This means we get to have fun juicing, but more importantly it means that we can put much much more fruit to very good use and distribute even more.

Apple day the Abundance way!

Last Sunday we had a stall at St. Ann’s Community Orchard for ‘Apple Day’.  It was a fantastic event – the sun was shining and we had lots of fun roasting chestnuts and making apple chutney!

Lots of people also signed up as volunteers to help out with the project and we were told about lots of other trees that need harvesting!

Here are some photos from the day:

St Ann’s Allotment Community Orchard Activity Day: Sunday 18th October 11-4, St Ann’s Allotments.

St Ann’s Allotment runs Activity Days on its Community Orchard on the third Sunday of every month. They provide healthy, practical and fun activities for local people and encourage children to play in the outdoors.

We’ll be having a stall there and will be making chutney and roasting chestnuts, and also making some apple pickers. We need people to help out on the day with the following:

- manning the stall
- chutney making
- roasting chestnuts
- helping get ingredients for apple pickers
- general Abundance promotion
- transporting stuff there and back

Please get in touch if you are able to help out with any of the above, and if not hope you can still come along and enjoy the day. We will be harvesting on the allotments for chutney ingredients!
